UKCAT 시험

UKCAT 시험은 BMAT 시험을 요구하는 대학을 제외한 거의 모든 영국 내 의과 대학에서 입학 시험으로 요구됩니다. UKCAT 시험은 BMAT 시험과는 다르게 정해진 시험 날짜나 등록 날짜가 없습니다. 그러나 2011 년도 10월 15일까지 입학원서를 작성해야 하는 지원자는 2011년 10월 7일이 마지막 시험 등록 날짜입니다. 해마다 마지막 시험은 9월말이나 10월 초에 있으니 잘 숙지해 두기 바랍니다. 시험 등록은 지원자가 직접 UKCAT 홈페이지에서 등록을 하면 됩니다.

 

2011 년 일정은 다음과 같고 매년 시험 일정은 비슷하므로 UKCAT 홈페이지에서 확인하면 됩니다.

UKCAT 시험은 GCSE 시험이 끝나고 AS-level 시작하기 전인 여름 방학 중에 시험을 칠 수 있으니 의대를 지망하려는 학생은 본인이 지원하려는 대학에서 UKCAT 시험을 요구하면 미리 여름 방학 때 준비해서 시험을 치기를 바랍니다. AS-level 시작해서는 학교 수업과 원서 작성 그리고 BMAT 시험 등 준비해야 할 것이 많아 UKCAT 시험 준비에 소홀할 수 있으니 참고하기 바랍니다. 그리고 시험결과가 일찍 나와면 그 점수에 따라 어디에 지원할 것인지 생각할 시간도 많아지니 최소 8월전에는 시험을 보는 것이 좋습니다.  시험 비용은 £ 60 에서 £ 75 사이입니다.

 

시험은 4 개의 section (verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, abstract reasoning, decision analysis) 으로 나누어져 있으며 총 시험 시간은 약 1시간 30분이고 모든 문제는 객관식 (multiple-choice) 입니다.

Verbal reasoning

Quantitative reasoning

 

This chart shows the number of students who were entered for each 5 examination subjects in a single class  between 2000 and 2005. Tt was compulsory to enter the Maths and English examinations.

Decision analysis

A group of archaeologists have discovered a hidden pyramid. They have found hieroglyphics on the walls which shows various codes. The team have managed to decode some of the messages; these are presented in Figure 1 below. Your task is to examine particular codes or sentences and then choose the best interpretation of the code from one of five possible choices.

You will find, at times, that the information which you have is either incomplete or does not make sense. You will need to then make your best judgment based on the codes rather than what you expect to see or what you think is reasonable. There will always be a best answer which makes the most sense based on all the information presented. It is important that you understand that this test is based on judgements rather than simply applying rules and logic.'

정답 해설: 코드가 나태 내는 단어들은 Apparatus, Increased, Oxygen, Senses, Fire 이다. 정답은 A 이며 이유는Bunsen burner는Apparatus 의 한 종류이고, smelt 는 감각 (sense) 을, Oxygen 은 gas 이며 남은 단어의 조합인 Increased and Fire 는 very hot 을 의미할 수 있습니다.

 

B 는 모든 단어들의 조합이나 논리적으로 맞지 않는 문장입니다. C 에는 Senses 를 나타내는 단어가 없고, D 에는 코드에는 없는 You 라는 단어가 있으며 Increased 를 나타내는 단어가 없습니다. 마지막으로 E 에도 Increased 를 나타내는 단어가 없습니다

 

UKCAT 시험은 900 만점으로 계산되며 대다수의 수험생은 600-700점 사이라고 합니다.
