It's 60 years since conflict broke out in the Korean peninsula. After the de-facto division that followed World War Two, forces from the Communist North invaded the American-backed South.
The war was soon internationalised - eventually troops from over 20 countries fought in the first major armed conflict of the Cold War.
Estimates vary, but at least two million Korean civilians, up to 1.5m communist forces, and around 30,000 US, 400,000 South Korean and 1,000 UK troops are believed to have died.
The Korean Cultural Centre in London has put together an exhibition of work from 40 Korean artists, asking them to interpret the war and its legacy. Mishal Husain spoke to curator Stephanie Seungmin Kim
