Principal Researcher Embassy of the Republic of Korea Location: London SW1E 6AJ Salary: US$50,000-$60,000 per annum (Negotiable, only in case of exceptional candidates with PhD) Start date: June 2019 Apply by: 23:59 GMT 15th May 2019 (Any application submitted later than this will not be considered.) The Embassy of the Republic of Korea is looking for a Principal Researcher with strong research skills, extensive policy analysis experience and in-depth knowledge of UK economy and politics as well as Korea-UK bilateral relations.
About the Role The Principal Researcher will study and analyse various issues with regard to UK and Korea–UK bilateral relations, both in political and economic dimensions, such as Brexit and UK domestic politics and foreign policy and produce written outputs ranging from policy briefs to in-depth research reports. The research area of the Principal Researcher will be mainly guided by the diplomatic staff in the Embassy but the Principal Researcher will also be able to take initiative to some extent.
Job Specifications: l Carrying out research and analysis of UK economy and politics, Korea-UK issues and European Affairs. l Producing both in-depth reports and regular policy briefs. l Assisting the diplomatic staff in policy analysis. l Building network and liasing with a wide range of stakeholders in the UK Parliament, government departments, think-tanks and universities. l Managing relevant external communications. l Carrying out other tasks which require research skills.
About the Person Essential Qualifications: l PhD (or Master’s degree with at least five years’ work experience in a related sector) in Economics, Political Science, International Relations, European Studies or a relevant discipline. l Work experience in think-tanks or government organisations as a researcher, policy analyst or consultant. l Experience in undertaking high quality research in a multi-disciplinary setting. l Proven record of policy analysis and research on UK politics and economy. l Native-level English Speaker; excellent written and verbal communication skills. Desired Qualifications: l Extensive understanding of Korean politics, economy and culture. l Good understanding of and work experience in UK nuclear or other energy industries l Good knowledge of issues related to the Korean Peninsula. l Work experience in Korean organisations. l Ability to communicate in Korean.
